i never went easter egg hunting

•March 25, 2008 • Leave a Comment

seriously, as a kid, i never went on an easter egg hunt. we just never did that. most of my friends in school did but it wasn’t part of our easter rituals. i discussed this oddity the other day with a friend and it came up again this afternoon while i was talking with a different friend.  she asked how my easter was…i said my easter hasn’t happened yet. it’s not until april 27th (eastern orthodox easter a.k.a. greek easter). so we discussed different ways we “greeks” do things vs. the “american easter” .  that is what my parents always called non greek easter – american easter. i refer to it that way as well. lol. but that’s besides the point my point was that i never did easter egg hunts growing up. i don’t know exactly why. my friends find it weird. yet, it never occured to me that such a little admission would garner such disbelief. hmmm, i think i’ll ask my mom, “why?”

i don’t have children. but i have a stash of children’s books. i have a thing for good kids books so when i come across ones that i love , i horde them. some i’ve chosen specifically for the artwork others for the story others still for sentimental value. today i found a bunch of books by Ed Young. aaah, new aquisitions… how splendid! i enjoyed the stories and really dug his illustrations. i know our local library has a bunch so check him out , literally.

ziggy played guitar

i have been hearing this ziggy stardust clip all over the place this past week. over and over again catching snippets of that one line. i wouldn’t have thought much of it except that  just as i was about to write about something else – which i will get to in a minute – that david bowie song was just on the radio. hmmm what does it mean? does it mean anything? is there a coincidence i should be paying attention to? so i decided to look up the complete lyrics and here they are….you tell me what it all means.

“Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly
The spiders from Mars.  He played it left hand
But made it too far
Became the special man, then we were Ziggy’s band
Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from Japan, he could lick ’em by smiling
He could leave ’em to hang
Came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan.
So where were the spiders while the fly tried to break our balls
Just the beer light to guide us,
So we bitched about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands?

Ziggy played for time, jiving us that we were voodoo
The kids were just crass, he was the nazz
With God given ass
He took it all too far but boy could he play guitar

Making love with his ego Ziggy sucked up into his mind
Like a leper messiah
When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band.

Oh yeah
Ziggy played guitaarrrrrr”

College Sleepy Time

•March 23, 2008 • 2 Comments

i just sort of realized that i have changed my sleep schedule again. it is back on college time. stay up easily til 3-4am…sleep easily til noon. crash anytime in between. i’m not cramming to finish a project or struggling to make sense of my work. although i probably could finish cleaning out the spare bedroom before company shows up on friday -i got bored and stopped. so here i am, just awake. it’s 2 am. there’s nothing much i have to do during the day – so i just do what i want. i like it. makes it hard to want to go back to full time work. nothing much i have to do in the evenings – so i just do what i want. i like that too. yet, sometimes i get a nagging sensation that i should fill my time constructively; read books, clean the house, walk the dog, actually leave the house. i’m not complaining just find it interesting. today we took the dog out for a nearly 3 hour stroll in the desert. it was beautiful out and we came home satisfied that we had spent one of the first days of spring properly. i’ve been puttering around the house since. not finding anything to hold my attention for very long. which under normal circumstances would create the same effect sunbeams through windows have on cats – instant nappy time. not today. today/tonight i am awake.  don’t feel like reading, don’t feel like cleaning, don’t feel like zoning out in front of the tv, don’t feel like surfing online, that’s why i am writing this….trying to keep busy or more precisely trying to poop out my brain so i will yawn a bit and think sleepy thoughts about a comfy bed and fluffly pillow. hum. i think i will try a crossword puzzle next. what’s a 4 letter word for “Drifts off” ?………..

i love coming across little ditties or sayings or words to the wise or just plain nonsense. i posted this last night on another blog after finishing the book but thought i’d share it here too. i just really dug this little poem, enjoy….Tank Girl – The Gifting

“the making
the styling
the faking
the smiling
the meeting
the sifting
the rogering
the gifting
the hoping
the praying
the leaving
the staying
the waiting
the lying
the sighing
the crying
the wishing
the dreaming
the fishing
the creaming

the milking
the milking
